India’s longest rail bridge operational in Katni

Train operations have begun on India’s longest railway grade separator bridge in Katni, Madhya Pradesh. The 34‑km-long bridge, constructed under the West Central Railway’s Jabalpur division, is designed to reduce congestion and improve freight movement in the region. It includes an 18‑km elevated viaduct, retaining walls, and extensive earthwork. The first coal-laden goods trains have started running, while some sections of the down line are still under construction. The bridge is expected to enhance rail efficiency, allowing uninterrupted movement over Katni’s busy rail yards and supporting broader modernization plans.
